THE STORY BEHIND PAPA SMITH'S LIMONCELLO
After taking an early retirement in 2008, I was looking for some hobbies to keep me busy. It was during a trip to the Amalfi Coast of Italy in 2010, that my interest in Limoncello began. I talked about the wonderful taste of the Italian liquer for weeks after I returned to the States and on Christmas 2011, my son and daughter-in-law gave me a limoncello making "starter kit". It was at that point that I began to research how to make limoncello and after a few experimental bottles, my new hobby took off. In addition to limoncello, I make and bottle "orangecello" and "grapefruitcello".
Strong and soothing, potent and relaxing, limoncello is a bright yellow after dinner liquer that hails from southern Italy along the Amalfi Coast and the islands of Capri and Ischia. Made with ripe full flavored lemons, the resulting liquer is very strong, very sweet and very satisfying.
